Common questions
Is this HMRC-approved? ▾
We submit via the official HMRC Making Tax Digital API. Formal listing on gov.uk's recognised-vendor index is on our roadmap; technically, your submission goes through the same HMRC endpoint regardless.
How long does onboarding take? ▾
Connect your Shopify store, authorise read access to your sales data, link your HMRC VAT account, and you're live within 24 hours. First submission can be walked through with us if you'd prefer.
What about VAT on my purchases? ▾
We populate the sales-side boxes of your VAT return (1, 3, 5, 6, 8) directly from your Shopify data. For the purchase-side boxes (2, 4, 7, 9), you enter the totals before submitting — usually a 30-second step from your existing records. You always review and confirm the full return before it goes to HMRC.
Why only £19/month? ▾
Most MTD bridging software targets accountants and charges £40–£80/month for features you don't need. Shopify merchants want one thing: their VAT, to HMRC, with zero friction. £19/month covers our HMRC integration costs with enough margin to keep the lights on.
I already use Xero / QuickBooks — why switch? ▾
You probably shouldn't. If Xero/QuickBooks works for you and you're not paying a bookkeeper just to do the VAT step, stay where you are. This is for merchants who don't want a full accounting platform — just the VAT bridge.
What data do you actually handle? ▾
Honest answer: Shopify's API returns full order records that include your customers' details — names, addresses, emails, phone numbers. We need the order amounts and tax breakdowns for the 9-box VAT return, and those come bundled with the customer fields whether we ask for them or not.
What we do with customer data when we receive it:
- Compute the VAT totals.
- Discard the customer fields from memory the instant the computation finishes.
What we never do:
- Store customer names, addresses, emails, phones, or IP addresses anywhere.
- Log them to any monitoring or error-tracking system.
- Pass them to any third party other than Shopify or HMRC for the strict service operation.
- Use them for analytics, profiling, or marketing of any kind.
- Train any AI or machine-learning model on your data.
Encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2+). UK-based hosting on Cloudflare; D1 storage stays in Western Europe. Full privacy policy + Data Processing Agreement at launch.
Who else has access to my data? ▾
The sub-processors we rely on to deliver the service:
- Shopify Inc. — source of your order, refund, and tax data; processor of your subscription billing.
- HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs) — recipient of submissions and HMRC-required fraud-prevention headers.
- Cloudflare, Inc. — hosting infrastructure (compute, database, DNS).
- Web3Forms (or successor) — landing-page enquiry capture.
We give 30 days' notice before any change. You can terminate without penalty if you don't agree to a new sub-processor.
